January 21 Presidio, TX to Chihuahua, Mexico

We left the RV park at 8:00 a.m. and set our odometer to zero. The log book we were given gave us exact mile markers of turns, stops and landmarks. We were in a caravan with Bob and Jackie behind us. We used our CB and we also used our walkie-talkie to communicate just with Bob and Jackie. We stopped around 12:00 (after having lost an hour) for lunch. There was a small store and a cute chapel.

Then we continued on toward Chihuahua. We all made another stop at a Pemex Station for fuel. While at that stop, the San Xavier y Santa Ana de los Chinarras Cathedral/Mission was being remodeled. We were able to go inside and it was so cold in there. The mission was built in 1716 and was destroyed twice by the Apache and Comanche Indians. We spoke to the foreman on the job and he said the Cathedral would be finished in May. It was hard to believe that they would make that deadline. When we left the Pemex station our caravan began to separate. We stayed with Bob and Jackie and continued toward Chihuahua. We almost missed our turn but Larry saw the street sign and matched it to the log book. There was a lot of construction but we managed to find our way. After we got set up in our campground, we had a margarita party and discussed the instructions for the next day. It was an interesting campground located right behind a Pemex station and an OXXO market. There were also horses that ran loose in the campground. Another area where there were more horses, turkeys, goats and chickens. We took carrots for the horses and they didn’t eat them but the chickens did. We got to walk around the park and finally get some exercise.
