April 16, 2008 - Drive to Harkers Island, NC

We had a nice leisurely four hour drive to Harkers Island today. Harkers Island is northeast of Charleston and right on Cape Lookout National Seashore - just below the Outer banks of North Carolina. We are staying at Calico Jacks. It is a boat marina, ferry dock, motel, and a few RV sites (nothing fancy although they had full hookups including cable. Out Direct TV dish even worked. The owner moved a couple of small boats so that we could park right next to the water. We can even see the Cape Lookout lighthouse across the way on Core Banks Island. We hope to take the ferry over to the island to get a closer look at the lighthouse. The sun is out and the wind is blowing but it is such a treat to look out at the water. Should be a restful stop for five days.
